Questions

Yes. Manuka honey comes from the nectar of Leptospermum plants. Australia has over 80 native species. Authentic Australian Manuka honey is tested for the same active compound, MGO. Trade mark offices in New Zealand and the UK have also refused to make "Manuka honey" a protected New Zealand term.

MGO is a natural compound, measured in mg/kg. It's the main driver of Manuka honey's antibacterial activity. Any Manuka honey can be tested for it. UMF™ is a licensed grading mark from the UMF Honey Association for New Zealand Manuka honey. It combines MGO with three other factors: leptosperin, DHA and HMF.

Manuka honey is a bioactive product. Its natural chemistry keeps changing, so its MGO can rise and fall over time. Every jar is guaranteed at the minimum MGO on its label at bottling, and MGO slowly declines after that. So each batch is bottled above the label strength, to allow for that decline over a long period when the honey is stored correctly.

For example, our MGO 2200+ batch #224738 was independently tested at an accredited laboratory at MGO 2360 mg/kg at bottling. You can see the latest results on each product page.

Australian Certified Organic (ACO), certificate number 12528. We're audited annually. A selection of our products meet certified organic standards: look for the ACO badge on the jar and on the product page.

It's stamped on each jar. The MGO 2200+ gift box certificate also shows it.
