Manuka Honey Masks. How to Do It and Why It Works
In previous articles, we examined Manuka Honey piece by piece: why it is so useful, expensive, and its composition. This article focuses on the specific cosmetic properties of honey, will teach you how to make useful masks and how it works.
Crucial Features in Manuka
The first thing you should notice is Australian Manuka properties: antibacterial, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory. Numerous studies suggest that most existing bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Helicobacter pylori, do not survive in Manuka. This is very surprising since honey consists of glucose and fructose, which are favorite bacterias food. It happens because honey does not conduct water, and air, respectively, does not allow bacteria to develop.
Unpasteurized
When buying pasteurized honey, don’t forget that you buy honey that does not contain any beneficial enzymes. As for Manuka, this honey exists only in raw and unpasteurized form. This is done to preserve all the beneficial properties and trace elements.
MGO and NPA
Each jar of Manuka contains Methylglyoxal, which is a unique ingredient and natural chemical. There is also another equally important ingredient - NPA. The NPA level on the Honey package means what activity honey has; the higher the level, the higher the antimicrobial activity. Read our previous articles to more information about these components.
