Why a Manuka Honey Face Mask Works So Well
A Manuka honey face mask offers a range of beauty benefits. Quick and easy to prepare, these masks are super-effective for:
-
Moisturising: Manuka honey naturally draws moisture into the skin, increasing elasticity and leaving it feeling soft and supple.
-
Cleansing: Manuka honey boasts unique antibacterial properties due to its abundant levels of MGO (methylglyoxal). This bioactive compound helps combat acne-causing bacteria, reduce breakouts and even out skin tone.
-
Soothing: Helping to relieve irritation, redness and inflammation, Manuka honey helps keep your skin feeling soft and nourished - and can be particularly beneficial for skin conditions such as eczema or rosacea.
-
Glowing: The natural enzymes found in Manuka honey can gently exfoliate your skin, helping to remove dead skin cells and cleanse deep-down dirt.
- Protecting: Manuka honey’s antioxidants help protect skin from damage caused by free radicals. This can be effective in preventing premature aging characteristics such as fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots.

Frequently Asked Questions About Manuka Honey Face Masks
What does a Manuka honey face mask do for your skin?
A Manuka honey face mask moisturises, cleanses, soothes and protects the skin. Its high MGO (methylglyoxal) content gives it unique antibacterial properties that help combat acne-causing bacteria, reduce redness and support skin conditions like eczema and rosacea.
How long should you leave a Manuka honey face mask on?
Most Manuka honey face masks work best when left on for 15-30 minutes. Simpler masks like the honey and lemon blend can be left on for up to 20 minutes, while the rose water mask can be left on for up to an hour.
What MGO strength is best for a face mask?
For skin and beauty use, Biosota recommends starting with MGO 260+ to MGO 880+ from our medicinal-grade range. Higher MGO concentrations deliver stronger antibacterial activity, making them particularly effective for acne-prone or sensitive skin.
Can you use a Manuka honey face mask on sensitive skin?
Yes. Manuka honey is naturally gentle and anti-inflammatory. For sensitive skin, the Manuka Honey & Spirulina recipe with rose water (instead of lemon juice) is a great option. Always patch test first.
How often should you use a manuka honey face mask?
1-2 times per week is generally recommended for most skin types. Those with dry or irritated skin may benefit from more frequent use, while oily skin types may prefer once weekly.
Note: Individual results may vary. We recommend you test any new skincare product or ingredient on a small patch of skin first - to ensure it is suitable for your skin type and doesn’t cause any adverse reactions. If you have any allergies or pre-existing skin conditions, please consult your healthcare professional before incorporating Manuka honey into your skincare routine.
